Where Strangers Become Friends.

Our Guest Book

Thank you for a lovely night and an even better morning! All day I have spoken about you both. Thanks for a fantastic time. I am already looking forward to my next stay. Enjoy your evening!! Your favourite Canadian...

Recently I stayed five nights at Manor Motel. The room was perfect for me & having the refrigerator & microwave was wonderful, saved me lugging cooler case in & out.  Each day ice was magically delivered to my room - I'd leave for a short time, come back & my bed would be made!  This is the first motel/B&B I've ever stayed where towels are provided in abundance!! Manor Motel provided the BEST service I've ever encountered.  My fellow guests were "good people" and I hope to return someday!

We came to Gouverneur to spend Thanksgiving weekend with our daughter and son-in-law who is stationed at Fort Drum. This was our first time staying in a B&B and we were very happy with this gem we found. Donna and Nelson welcomed us with warmth, a friendly smile and a firm handshake. If you're ever in New York's North Country, we highly recommend you stay here. We have another trip planned for Gouverneur in the spring and we look forward to visiting Nelson, Donna, Monique and Zoe again.

During a weekend in November, my husband and I drove to Gouverneur, NY. Since this is an "off-the-beaten-path" sort of place, I anticipated just catching up on reading while my husband completed some work at a nearby business. I am always wary of staying at hotels unfamiliar to me, but he assured me he had heard good things about the accommodations there. We were greeted at the door by "Barbara," a friendly woman who accompanied us to our room, giving us helpful information along the way.

I was taken by surprise at the genuine Victorian theme of this lovely and stately home, and I stood admiring the authentic details of our room. I remarked to my husband that I felt like we had stepped back in time. Our room was not only adequate, but quite charming, spacious, and had all the amenities of a first-class hotel. In the morning, our hosts, Nelson and Donna, served us a bountiful breakfast and sat right down to get acquainted! They could not have been kinder or more generous, and I recalled the phrase on their outdoor sign - "Where strangers become friends." During our visit, we spent more time with these lovely people, and felt like we were visiting old friends! What a delight it has been. If you are traveling to this area, do not hesitate to make a reservation here (if they are not booked!). You will not regret it.

Donna & Nelson are the most accommodating people you will ever meet! Their B&B's are absolutely beautiful and no detail is left out. More important, they will do anything they can to make sure you have what you need. We were staying at our family camp nearby and had to work while on vacation; they let us set up shop in their dining room and we were able to take care of some urgent business matters via their internet connection, and even used their printer so we had everything we needed without worry! Can't say enough about these two....they know what they are doing and highly recommend their B&B's and motel rooms as well.

When I came to know I have to visit Gouvernuer for 6 weeks on my business trip. I felt very scared how I can live in such a small town. Once I enter into Lawrence Manor on Jan 19th 2012 became relaxed by the welcome by Donna (the Boss) and Nelson (Captain). Both treated me like their Son. Their hospitality and care taking is marvelous. I never forget this Manor in my life. Food at manor is really good. "Where Strangers become friends" is really true. I stayed lot of B&B in US but I never felt like this. Thanks Boss and Captain for your full support and guidance for my stay in Gouvernuer.

We came to Lawrence Manor for a soccer tournament. The inn was great. Donna and Nelson were wonderful hosts who cooked a fabulous breakfast. The table was set for a king and queen. Rooms were decorated with great detail. Even the poodles who live at the inn were a treat.

We had a "girl cousins" stay at Lawrence manor that was great from beginning to end, which came all too soon. Lawrence Manor is a beautiful place to stay. I would highly recommend it. Donna and Nelson made us feel right at home....we felt very special and the breakfast on Sunday, prepared by Nelson was fabulous.....we will be back. Thanks Donna and Nelson for making our stay so special.

What a great spot for a girls' weekend. The house is beautiful and the food and service are 5 star. Thanks, Nelson, for making us feel so at home and giving us run of the place!

Linda, Charleston, WV

We had stayed in the motel on a previous trip and very much enjoyed our stay, but the house is the real gem! We were made to feel very welcome, the rooms were very warm, welcoming and comfortable, and the breakfast the next day? FABulous! I've stayed in expensive hotels that didn't have showers as nice as this, or beds as comfortable. Will recommend this to friends traveling up there, and hope to come back next year!

We loved every moment of our stay. The house is just gorgeous with lovely surprises everywhere you turn. Donna and Nelson made us feel right at home and Zoe and Monique were true joys.

Thank you for making a difficult weekend wonderful. Your backyard was perfect for a family gathering. The setup and extra touches you did were greatly appreciated.

A wonderfully atmospheric place with great food and friendly staff. We definitely plan to stay at the Manor again.

Mike Elmer, Wilmington, NC

Your attention to every detail was amazing!! The rooms were beautifully decorated, the food was wonderful, your help to make our stay a special time was so appreciated. Somehow a burial weekend for parents and the word "fun" don't seem to go together but your hospitality and willingness to accomodate us with anything we needed or wanted made our stay exactly that ... FUN!!! With the crowds I feel at home, I want your breakfast casserole recipe!! Thanks for "dealing" with all of us!!

Colleen and Mike Steenberge, Columbia, MD

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The atmosphere is fabulous. The room is great, and the people are warm and friendly. What a great place to reunite with my daughter. Lawrence Manor will always hold a special place in our hearts. Staying in this lovely hotel has just become our newest and cherished family tradition.

Great place to stay. We visited the area because we went to look at Canton University. My son was accepted so we will definitely be back. I will pick no other place to stay.... Owners were great, beds were comfortable, room was super clean! I would recommend this place to anyone. Thank you for the wonderful experience! See you again soon! PS: Sorry about the cabinet door. Let me know if I owe you anything.

We traveled all the way from Utah just to stay at this beautiful manor. Donna & Nelson have made us feel so welcome, we consider them family now.

Our stay was wonderful as usual! We so enjoy being together at your beautiful home. Great food, great times, "It's All Good!"

When my brother died Aug. 11, I had to make last-minute arrangements for my son, daughter, and myself. Having stayed at the Manor a year ago, I immediately phoned Nelson and Donna. They arranged for us to spend a week in the Victorian Lady, having the entire house to ourselves. They made what could have been a difficult situation so easy and pleasant. We three had a delightful reunion thanks to the Lawrences.

With my interest in B&B's, while recently visiting with my family in Gouverneur & Edwards area, I just had to stop by and see your Bed & Breakfast. I loved it! If only I had known of your establishment prior to making my travel plans, I would have booked a night and experienced the delights of staying with you! Thank you allowing my sister and I to have a "peek" into your beautiful Bed & Breakfast. That in itself was a real treat. I KNOW your guest feel the same way. Wishing you prosperity,

Carol Beckworth, Pensacola, FL, July, 2009

What a delight the Lawrence Manor was to discover! Our room - Nelson's par 3 was comfortable - and we were so pleased with the ambiance of the entire property. We've told everyone we could about our stay, and we are sure to be back on our next visit home to visit family.

Gayle Griffith, Cumberland, MD - July, 2009

We stayed in two different rooms and both were excellent in condition and design. The rooms are well kept and inviting. We are planning another trip this weekend and look forward to staying at this little magical place!

Nali, NYC, November, 2008

Donna and Nelson, Your home-like B&B is lovely and your hospitality is even better. You both made me feel I was a cherished guest and friend. It was such fun to come downstairs to one of Nelson’s delicious, bountiful breakfasts, and then to sit leisurely for a chat. After such pampering, I’m sure I’ll be impossible to live with.

Thank You, Donna and Nelson, for renewing our faith in the "B&B" experience. The food was excellent, the company was delightful as well as informational and our room was very comfortable. Our stay was part of a trip to the NYS Cross Country Championships that led to a pleasant adventure which included the Lawrence Manor.

I would like to say that your saying "where strangers become friends" is so true. BUT you make a person feel like a friend from the very start. We were in for my nephew Gary Hughes II funeral and you made all of us feel welcome and very comfortable. You were wonderful and your place was wonderful! You went out of your way to make us feel welcome. Our three rooms and your hospitality made it feel like home! I will let everyone that will listen know what a wonderful place you have! I will be back one day and want to say thank you so very much for your support and friendship during this difficult time.

Karen L. Mika, Nov. 2007

We enjoyed our visit last week with Bob and Jean Harney at your beautiful homes. You have put so much time and love into these homes and it shows. Again, thanks for your gracious hospitality. We have been bragging about your place to anyone who will listen!

Herman and Dorothy French, Sept. 29, 2006

I just wanted to say how enjoyable my stay was in the Manor Motel. The room was comfortable and was tastefully decorated. For me, it will be the first place I stay when I'm in Gouverneur again. I will make sure to tell my friends! Thank you Donna and Nelson for making my stay a pleasant one.

Jon Miller, Sept. 6, 2006

Thank you for your hospitality. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our conversation with you over breakfast.

Donna and Nelson the website looks terrific! Michelle and I return to the states in August of 2007 and we can't wait to come and visit. Have a great Holiday.

Very nice. I am a friend of Bonnie's. Her sister will most likely be visiting, this weekend...I had to sneek a peek at it. My dream would be to work at a B&B. You have a great website also. Thank You for the visit...Pam

If you have not stayed with Donna & Nelson at the Lawrence Manor you have missed the small town attitude, mixed with an incredible breakfast. Truly, TRULY good people who truly WILL REMEMBER YOUR NAME the next time you visit! When visiting the area, do yourself a favor and call the Lawrence Manor.
